Irisih trio Two Door Cinema Club are back with another creative clip, this time for the standout Beacon track “Handshake.” The Sam Pilling-directed video sees a butcher decapitating band members Alex Trimble, Sam Halliday and Kevin Baird to use their still-living heads as bowling balls. After “Sleep Alone,” “Sun” and “Next Year,” “Handshake” is the fourth single taken from last year’s sophomore LP Beacon and will be released on June 10th via Kitsuné. Watch the video below.
Northern-Ireland indie masters Two Door Cinema Club have released the video for “Next Year,” the third single (following “Sleep Alone” and “Sun”) off their sophomore studio album Beacon. Despite the trademark Two Door Cinema Club energetic sound, the album opener is in fact a sad piece about two lovers whose relationship is thwarted by distance, because the guy, vocalist Alex Trimble, is on tour and away from the girl throughout the year. Trimble promises her that he’ll “be home next year” and sings, “if you think of me, I will think of you.” Awww… Trimble told NME: “It was one of the first new ones we put down on the record after ‘Handshake’, ‘Sleep Alone’ and ‘Settle’, which were written quite a long time before that. It’s a song for friends who we never see.”
Directed by Giorgi Testi, the performance-type video was shot at Dublin’s O2 Arena on January 19, 2013, and features the trio and over 10.000 fans.“We’ve been having so much fun playing shows this year that we thought it very appropriate to make one into a music video. The O2 Arena in Dublin is one of the biggest headline shows we’ve ever played, so we thought it would be a great idea to capture it on film. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!” said guitarist Sam Halliday.
Next Year will be released on February 18th on Kitsuné with a bunch of remixes. Until then, watch the video and get a free download of a beautiful remix of the song by Newcastle Indie-pop quintet Shields below.
Irish band Funeral Suits—as their name might suggest—verge on the deep and dark with some heavy lyrics in their otherwise summery sounding indie pop/rock debut album Lily of the Valley via Model Citizen Records. (Until you hit “We Only Attack Ourselves”… the guitar distortion gets more noticeably melancholic from then on.) Support them as they set out on their Ireland/France tour in the next month (or this coming SXSW, fellow Austinites).
Check out their lately released (and mildly disturbing) music vid for “Hands Down,” directed by Kevin Minogue:
Or my fave, their more whimsical (though still kinda creepy) vid for “All Those Friendly People,” directed by Shaun Ryan:
Finally, you can stream the whole album from their bandcamp below.

Brooklynites The Golden Pony have given Two Door Cinema Club’s “Sleep Alone” a synthy rework and we approve. Stream the track below, or download it for free here.
“Human Elevator” is the latest single to stem from Dublin’s The Cast of Cheers’ sophomore album. The track is taken from the 4-piece’ Family, which is avalable via Co-Operative Music. You can watch the freakishly eerie video below.
Two Door Cinema Club has just shared a track from their forthcoming album Beacon and it’s 7 shades of awesome. “Sleep Alone” is the first single of the album which will be released on September 3rd via the always reliable Kitsuné Records. Listen to it below (we’ve also embedded the lyric video for you karaoke freaks). Catch them in Montréal at Metropolis on October 6th.
Here is the music video for “Forget Me Knots,” the first single from Heathers, a Dublin duo composed of twin sisters Ellie and Louise Macnamara. The track is taken from their second album Kingdom which comes out on September 7th via Aunthill Records. The video was directed by Hugh O’Conor and filmed by Jamie Tanner.
Sorcha Richardson is a 21 year old folk singer from Dublin who is currently residing in New York City. She’s firmly demonstrated that she has a fine grasp on how to deliver perfect atmospheric folky pop songs with haunted, low-key drama that will remind you of Bon Iver and/or Perfume Genius. Definitely an artist to watch out for. Her Latest EP, Sleep Will Set Me Free, will be available for free on her Bandcamp page starting June 29th. Listen to the first single from the EP, “Early Morning rising,” below (or grab the track for free here).

Early last month, Dublin’s Darragh Nolan of Sacred Animals and LA’s Steph Thompson (aka Steffaloo) joined forces to re-produce and re-imagine Thompson’s track “On Fire” which renders the original recording completely unrecognisable and turning it into a mesmerizing and melancholic track (released via Delphi Label). And the video for the track just dropped; it is quite simplistic with a shot of a pond and Steffaloo’s voice, as her face fades in and out over the nature footage. The video was directed by Brendan Canty of Feel Good Lost. Check it out below (and download the track here) and listen to the original version of the track at the bottom of this post.
