Handsome and talented Britpop singer-songwriter Eugene McGuinness has dropped the video for “Sugarplum”, the latest single off of his amazing third full-length album The Invitation To The Voyage which is out via Domino Records. If you’re new to McGuiness’ music, first of all, you can thank us after watching the video below. Second of all, don’t let the tight-fitting linen suit and the slicked back hair through which the Irish/British singer blinks an eye to his influences and idols from the 60s make you think that you’re about to hear something retro and nostalgic. On the contrary, his music is as modern sounding as British pop music can ever be. And third of all, you will probably want to visit this YouTube playlist by Domino Records to watch what you’ve been missing from this guy.
As for “Sugarplum,” the single is due out on December 10th. We love the beat-driven bright groove and the marvelously catchy chorus of this single…oh, and not to mention, those brilliant wordplays that run through the lyrics which are basically calling his “Sugarplum” to be spontaneous and free, to celebrate the happiness in the present moment and letting everything else go by. Shot at a London rooftop, the video has a very simple, stylish and urban feel. You can watch it below.
