The Luyas are Jessie Stein, Mathieu Charbonneau, Pietro Amatro and Stefan Schneider from Montreal. After the 2011’s Too Beautiful To Work, the band has announced their sophomore full length effort Animator earlier this month with a free download of “Fifty Fifty”, the first single to come out from the album. Directed by Derrick Belcham and choreographed by Montreal’s Katie Ward, the fantastic new video of “Fifty Fifty” premiered yesterday and it is a perfect fit with the song’s melancholy feel.
Belcham explains the symbolism behind the video as “the negotiation of the barrier between the intangible powers on either side of our selves that mold our malleable personae. The border between lovers which can be so violent in its shifting, the pressurized membrane between self and environment, the unseen war of logic and belief, each fights and gains or surrenders territory, shifting the border to occupy or abandon space and, in so doing, changes us.”
Animator is out October 16, on Dead Oceans.
